Letter: Pharmacy benefit managers threaten independent pharmacies

To the editor: The Associated Press recently exposed the pharmacy desert problem in rural Minnesota, where patients struggle to find nearby pharmacies. This problem is only worsened by greedy Pharmacy Benefit Managers, who make it more difficult for independent pharmacies to survive.

I am someone who knows what it is like to care for loved ones with rare conditions while helping manage their prescriptions. The threats that PBMs pose to patient access and to the future of independent pharmacies raise major red flags for me and countless other patients and caregivers nationwide. Congress needs to step in and reform these broken, self-serving PBM policies before more patients and communities suffer. This is a problem facing every corner of Minnesota.
